RULES FOR HAMILTON-HALTON ORMTA CANADA MUSIC WEEK POSTER COMPETITION
1.Category A: Age 8 and under
Category B: Age 9 to 12
Category C: Age 13 and over
2.Entrants will illustrate a Canadian piece, either one they have played
or have heard.
3.All posters must be a minimum of 81/2Óx 11Ó and a maximum of 10Óx 14Ó.
Paper must be standard paper weight or card stock.
4.Posters may be illustrated with marker, crayon, coloured pencil or
collages. Please do not use charcoal, pastels or paint. Paper may be any
colour.
5.All posters must include on the front as part of the picture: Canada
Music Week, November 16-23, 2008 as well as the title and composer of the piece
illustrated. On the back, print the entrantÕs name, age and teacherÕs name.
6.Posters will be displayed at the Canada Music Week recital on November
22. Winners will receive prizes and entrants will receive stickers and pencils.

RULES FOR THE MUSIC WRITING
COMPETITION
CATEGORY A, 11 years and under
Class 1. An original composition for solo instrument or
any combination of instruments.
Class 2. An original composition for voice, with or
without accompaniment.
CATEGORY B, 15 years and under
Class 1. An original composition for solo instrument or
any combination of instruments.
Class 2. An original composition for voice, with or
without accompaniment.
CATEGORY C, 19 years and under
Class 1. An original composition for any instrument or
any combination of instruments, or voice or any combination of voices and
instruments as accompaniment when accompaniment is necessary for performance.
CATEGORY D over 19
Class 1. Same rules as category C
1. The composer must be a student of an ORMTA member and
the work must be the original work of the composer.
2. Music submitted for Category A must be composed
entirely by the child but may be written down by an adult. Entries for
Categories B,C and D must be scored entirely by the student.
3. All manuscripts should be neat and legibly written
in black ink on regulation manuscript- size paper, and should include details
of dynamics, tempo etc., with every 10th bar numbered. Manuscripts
printed by computer are permitted. It is advisable to retain your original copy
of the work.
4. Print clearly, on the back of the manuscript, the
composerÕs name, category and teacherÕs name.

IMPORTANT NOTE
Students may enter either the music writing competition
or the poster competition more than once, and of course, they may enter both
competitions. Winners will be forwarded to the provincial competition level.
