What is a Registered Music Teacher?

A registered Music Teacher is a music teacher who is fully qualified and has been accepted by the ORMTA (Ontario Registered Music Teachers' Association).

A Registered Music teacher is also a member of the CFMTA (Canadian Federation of Music Teachers' Associations), which consists of numerous branches across Canada.

The ORMTA members have the right to be designated RMT (Registered Music Teacher) by Parliamentary Act 1946 (chapter 131).

The requirements to become a Registered Music Teacher:

 

1.   A degree or diploma equivalent to that of the Associate or Licentiate Diplomas issued by any recognized University or School of Music.

2.   The practical Viva Voce and written Teacher's examination in the subject area of instruction OR Equivalent pedagogical training.

3.   Proof of teaching experience satisfactory to the Board of Examiners.
